On a historic day in December of 1901, Guglielmo Marconi proved wireless waves were not affected by the curvature of the earth. He also was able to successfully transmit wireless signals between continents, and even across the Atlantic Ocean! Throughout 1902 – 1912, he patented many new inventions, such as a monopole antenna and magnetic detector. In 1907, he opened up the first transatlantic commercial service.
Overall, the public was extremely impressed by all of Marconi’s work. He was truly a pioneer of communications, and the radio would not be where it is today if it were not for Guglielmo Marconi's contributions and hours upon hours of work. Without him, the radio would not be the same!
